Four d!e in Police and hoodlums 15-hour gun duel in Anambra

Four suspected members of a secessionist group have been killed following a 15-hour gun battle with police operatives in Awa, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, August 29, noting that a victim who had been kidnapped and held hostage in the groups camp was rescued during the operation. According to Ikenga, police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, in collaboration with the Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG) Agunechemba, stormed the hideout in the early hours of August 21, acting on credible intelligence. During the well-coordinated operation that lasted for more than 15 hours, the operatives successfully dislodged the insurgents, rescued a victim who had earlier been kidnapped and held hostage in the camp, the statement read. Ikenga revealed that despite the victims family paying a ransom of 20 million, his release was withheld by the armed group until security forces intervened. In the fierce gun battle that ensued, 4 (four) of the criminal elements were neutralized, he added. Recovered items from the camp included two pump action guns, a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a K2 assault rifle, a locally made hunter gun, three improvised explosive devices (IEDs), a radio transmission box, two gas cylinders, rolls of cable wire, three bags of rice, as well as several vehicles, including a Lexus RX 350 Jeep and multiple Toyota Camry cars. Other exhibits included mobile phones, identity cards, sleeping materials, a desert boot, a tarpaulin roll, and a large cooler. The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, assured residents of Anambra that the command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks in the state.
