Former WWE talent reveals why she quit company

Darci Khan, who competed for WWE Evolve under the name Masyn Holiday, confirmed in a social media post that she departed WWE as well as shared the reasons behind the move.

Speculation that she had left the company began after eagle-eyed fans noticed Khan had reverted back to her real name on her social media accounts earlier this month.

Prior to signing with WWE in late 2023 as part of WWE’s Next In Line initiative, Khan was a standout track and field athlete at Howard University. Once in WWE, she wrestled in Evolve, appeared on WWE: Legends & Future Greats (LFG), and competed in NXT dark matches.

One of her more notable chapters in Evolve came as part of the ROAR (Real Ones Always Rise) Records faction with Layla Diggs and Nikkita Lyons.

But even with her star seemingly on the rise, Khan decided to step away from pro wrestling to focus on her mental health.

“I have left the WWE. I was very, very, very, very, extremely unhappy at that job. My depression and anxiety at an all-time high,” she said in a video posted on Instagram. “I would look at myself in the mirror and not even know who I was anymore. It was that bad. I cried for months straight, and what kept me there was me telling myself, ‘You don’t know what you’re gonna do next. Well, what if you leave the job and you’re still depressed and you’re still miserable.’ Those things kept me where I wasn’t supposed to be for way too long.”

Khan said that these signs pointing her to needing a change, and she said “it felt like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders” the day she decided to quit. She also firmly noted that she’s “not saying the WWE is bad, and she was “not bashing nobody at WWE.”

“It’s just for me and my purpose on this Earth, it just wasn’t aligning at all,”  she said. “The things I desire in life, and the places the WWE would take me was just, they weren’t aligned.”

While struggling with what to do before she made her ultimate decision, Khan said she turned to her faith.

“The day I quit, I did not plan to quit at all. It was all God. Before I walked in the building, I prayed to God,” she said. “I knew I didn’t have the strength to make it through practice by myself, because I did not want to be there. I did not want to wrestle anymore. It was a unbearable weight I couldn’t hold myself.

“I walk into practice, my coach comes up to me, she goes, ‘What’s wrong, Masyn?’ It all just came out, and she goes, ‘Do you want to talk about it?’ I knew when I was goning quit I was gonna talk to my coach. So I was like, ‘You know what, I want to talk about it. I don’t want to wrestle anymore,’ and she said, ‘Honestly, I can see it on your face every day.’”

She said her coach told her that to make it in wrestling, it has to be in your heart. Khan realized she didn’t have it in her.

“I knew that it wasn’t my purpose and my calling to be the biggest WWE Superstar there,” Khan said.

Khan emphasized that she’s happy now and at peace. We at Cageside Seats wish Darci Khan the best.
