Trying to escape the long arm of the law isn’t really the smartest thing but some folks get away with it. As statistics likely bear out, a cruiser motorcycle might not be the best choice of getaway vehicle. Using one in very wet conditions compounds that poor choice even further. Nevertheless, that’s what one Arkansan man did according to video footage obtained from the police. He found out the hard way that it wasn’t the right decision.

According to the police report obtained by Police Pursuits, on November 19th, the motorcyclist was riding along in Texarkana, Arkansas. State Trooper Jordan Drake noticed both red and white flashing lights on the bike and initiated a traffic stop. That’s when the biker reportedly decided to take off and accelerated up to approximately 90 mph in a 45 mph zone.

The officer continued to tail the motorcyclist as they merged onto Interstate 49. However, on the on-ramp, the biker lost control of the motorcycle on the slippery road surface and crashed severely onto the shoulder. If the rider had fallen onto the pavement of the on-ramp, the outcome could have been fatal. Trooper Drake himself faced difficulties slowing down due to the treacherous conditions. He passed the crash initially but had to double back to apprehend the man and take him into custody.

At that point, Trooper Drake discovered that the man purportedly had a pipe, a 9mm pistol, and what appeared to be methamphetamine in his possession. As per the police report, he confessed to having an outstanding arrest warrant. However, the consequences of the crash proved to be more severe for the suspect than the prospect of going to jail, as he sustained injuries significant enough to require an indefinite hospitalization period.

After reviewing video from the crash, Drake apparently went back to find even more evidence of criminal activity including a loaded revolver and a backpack. The rider is now reportedly facing charges of fleeing, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drugs and firearms, and possession of a firearm by certain persons.

Let this be a clear warning for any who might try to run from police in the future. It’s a bad idea no matter what but on a motorcycle in bad conditions it’s just plain dumb.
