First set of seven AAU students arrested by the Police over last Saturday's protest have been released
The first set of Ambrose Alli University Students arrested by the police over the anti-kidnapping protest held in Ekpoma, Edo state last weekend, have been released. Their release was approved by the state governor, Monday Okpebholo. Recall that 52 persons were arrested by the police last weekend after the protest against the increasing spate of k!dnapping and insecurity in the community turned into a violent riot as some of the protesters vandalized properties and looted shops in the community.  Following the arrest, there was a public outcry with claims that most of the persons arrested were students of the Ambrose ALli University. It was alleged that thepolice stormed the school hostel and summarily arrested some of the students. Following the public outcry for their release, the state governor, Monday Okpebholo, ordered the release of genuine students' amongst the arrested protesters. Last night, seven of the AAU students who were among those arrested were released.
