Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has dismissed speculation of a fallout with teammate Gavi, insisting their relationship remains strong despite recent rumours.

Reports in Spain had suggested tension between the pair following a social media post by Lopez earlier in the summer, which was linked by fans to their personal circles.

However, Lopez has told Mundo Deportivo that the claims are baseless.

“Gavi has been my friend since I was 12 years old. I’ve known him since my time at Betis, but since I joined La Masia he’s been my friend, like my brother.

“We have shared a lot. People always speculate, this is not going to change, but he is still my friend. We have a good relationship, as always and I have nothing more to say about it,” Lopez explained.

The 22-year-old also spoke on his decision to stay at Barcelona amid late interest from Chelsea, admitting he sought advice from senior teammates before rejecting a move.

“I’ve had some conversations with some. I can tell you… Ter Stegen, for example. With him, with Ronald, with Pedri… With quite a few players, really. Raphinha too.

“But the whole team has been very supportive of me this week and everyone wanted me to stay too. The affection of the dressing room is appreciated,” he added.

Lopez, who has been backed publicly by head coach Hansi Flick, is expected to play a key role this season after committing his future to the Catalan giants.
