Ghanaian musician, Fancy Gadam, has expressed his shock and disappointment after receiving a meager GH₵374 from the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) as royalties.

According reports sighted online, while speaking during an interview on Accra-based Power FM, the “Total Cheat” hitmaker voiced his frustration and questioned the seriousness of GHAMRO in handling the affairs of its members.

Fancy Gadam was visibly upset, emphasizing the dire situation this paltry sum represents for veteran artists who depend on these royalties for their livelihood. “I feel like they don’t take us seriously because if they give Fancy Gadam that kind of money, what about the older artists who are doing music as their work and they are waiting for royalties? It hurts. Are they trying to tell me that this is what I deserve for a whole year? I don’t understand. I’m in pain right now,” he lamented.

He highlighted his significant contributions to the music industry, noting the widespread popularity of his songs, especially those from his recent album “Competition.”

The inconsistency in payments was also a major issue Fancy Gadam brought up. He is reported to have said: “I didn’t know how to put it. I just feel like the last time they sent me it was GH₵1800, so. And I don’t know why are they telling me that this year all I can get is GH₵350 when it is this year that I even worked more.”

Fancy Gadam further questioned the rationale behind the modest amount received from GHAMRO, considering the substantial expenses he incurs, including VAT payments for his concerts. His confusion over the criteria used by GHAMRO for these payments was evident, as he mentioned his uncertainty about the specific period covered by this latest disbursement.
