Falz demands transparency following government’s announcement on kidnapping rescues

Nigerian musician and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has voiced concerns over the lack of transparency in the government’s recent statements about the rescue of kidnapping victims in Kwara and Niger States.

The president had announced the release of 38 individuals abducted from a Kwara State church and 50 students among over 300 kidnapped in Niger State, but offered few details about the operation.

Taking to social media, Falz questioned the circumstances of the rescues of kidnapping victims, asking whether any arrests had been made, if ransoms were paid, or what measures are being implemented to prevent future abductions. He described the official announcements as insufficient and urged citizens to take action by contacting their elected representatives to demand accountability.

“Hi guys, President announced yesterday that all 38 people that were kidnapped in the Kwara Church have regained their freedom. Also that 50 out of the 300, over 300 people kidnapped in Niger have also returned home. There was no mention of any arrests being made, no mention of whether any ransom was paid, no mention of anyone being apprehended and brought to book. This does not cut it. It is just not enough,” Falz wrote.

He further called for public engagement and suggested coordinated efforts to pressure lawmakers for a televised public hearing: “We need to call for a public hearing, broadcast on live TV, live streamed for anybody anywhere in the world to watch… Yeah, but I think we need to get to sending these messages immediately. This is a national emergency. We can’t continue like this.”

Falz’s post shows growing frustration among citizens over Nigeria’s security situation, highlighting the demand for more detailed reporting and stronger accountability from government and security agencies.
