Ex-Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax Kills Wife, Self

Former Virginia Lieutenant Governor, Justin Fairfax, shot and killed his wife inside their home in Annandale,Virginia and thereafter killed himself, authorities have confirmed.

According to Fairfax County Police Chief, Kevin Davis, Fairfax allegedly shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself. The incident, which occurred shortly after midnight, is believed to have stemmed from a domestic dispute linked to “what seems to be a complicated or messy divorce,” Davis said.

Police officers responding to the scene discovered the couple dead inside the residence. Captain Chris Cosgriff disclosed earlier. Authorities emphasised that there was no ongoing threat to the public, adding that detectives have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Fairfax served as lieutenant governor under Ralph Northam from 2018 to 2022 and was a candidate in Virginia’s 2021 gubernatorial race.

His political career was previously marred by controversy following sexual assault allegations made against him in 2019, which led to widespread calls for his resignation at the time.

Police said further details will be released as the investigation progressed.
