Multiple award-winning singer and performer Omah Lay sparked an intense debate on social media following a series of text messages he shared with Mavin Records lead artist, Rema, revealed by the singer dating as far back as December 2023.

In the numerous screenshots of the text messages shared by the singer on an alter ego account (Story of an angel), it showed that both singers had exchanged ideas in terms of music. The account showed conversations and discussions of a possible collaboration, but what caught the eyes of many was the 'mara' recording shared by Omah Lay.

After the images of the chat, 'The Story of an Angel' referenced a publication where Rema's new sound was categorised under the 'Mara' sound as well. This has sparked a debate on social media as music lovers could not help but recollect when Omah Lay revealed in August 2024 that his album idea was stolen, forcing him to rerecord a project he was already working on.
