Enterprise AI startup Ema raises $77 million in Series B funding led by Creaegis

Enterprise AI startup Ema has raised $77 million in a Series B funding round led by Bengaluru-based venture capital firm Creaegis, as it looks to expand the use of its AI agents across corporate functions including human resources, IT and finance. Existing investors Accel, Section 32 and Prosus increased their investments in the company. The round brings Ema's total funding to $140 million and more than quadruples its valuation from its previous funding round in 2024. Ema said it will use the funding to expand its go-to-market operations and continue investing in its technology platform.

Co-founder and CEO Surojit Chatterjee said much of the new capital will go towards sales and marketing after the startup spent its early years largely focused on developing the product.

“Enterprises do not need more software. They need work to get done,” Chatterjee said.

“Our customers are not running experiments; they are running their HR, IT and Finance operations on AI Employees at a scale of millions of interactions a year. This round lets us bring that to many more enterprises still stuck in the pilot stage,” he added.

What does Ema do?

Founded in 2023 by Chatterjee, a former Google and Coinbase executive, and former Okta executive Souvik Sen, Ema develops software it describes as “AI Employees”.

Rather than assigning a single AI agent to an isolated task, Ema's system coordinates multiple agents to carry out multi-step business processes across software already used by a startup.

The startup has developed AI Employees for HR, IT and finance. Its systems can carry out tasks across enterprise applications, including handling workflows that involve several stages or systems, rather than only generating answers to employee questions. Ema's September product announcement said its AI Employees can complete routine work across existing systems and seek human involvement where required.

It offers more than 250 native integrations across areas including customer relationship management, HR, finance and project management. The platform can also draw on more than 150 AI models, including frontier and open-source models.

This model allows a company to begin with a particular workflow or department and then extend the technology to additional processes without replacing all of its existing software infrastructure.
