English FA takes decision on Gareth Southgate's future

The future of Gareth Southgate as the manager of the Three Lions has been under scrutiny since the beginning of Euro 2024 following England's performance at the start of the competition.

There are reports from the English FA that the future of Gareth Southgate with the Three Lions is safe as he will remain in his position as head coach of England. The board have reportedly agreed that he will remain the team until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, regardless of the outcome of the Euro 2024 final.

The Three Lions will hope to overturn their loss in the last edition to Italy on home soil in Wembley in 2020.

Southgate has been remarkable since he took charge of the English men's national team. He has led them to two finals of a European competition for the first time in the nation's history. England defeated the Netherlands with the very last kick of the game in the semi-finals, with the winning goal coming from Aston Villa's forward player, Ollie Watkins.

Speaking after the game against the Dutch, Southgate said,

"I think it has to be the best, it's another landmark but the way that we played as well, we played so well throughout the game. It was a complicated game, they kept changing, and we had to keep changing how we were defensively, especially. But I thought we caused them problems all night, and the end is so special for the squad. It's an example of what the squad are giving to the cause."

Southgate will hope his team will defeat three-time champions Spain when both sides face each other in the final on Sunday, July 14, 2024. The last time the English men's team won any major competition was in 1966 when they hosted the FIFA World Cup.
