Electric G 580 with EQ Technology helped the Mercedes-Benz G-Class achieve its best sales year ever in 2025

Off-road-ready Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV had its best sales year ever in 2025 since its arrival in 1979.

The electric G-Class substantially contributed to the total 49,700 customer (+23%) deliveries in 2025.

Mercedes expects better sales performance when the G‑Class Cabriolet and the Baby G joins the lineup.

Mercedes-Benz says that the off-road-ready G-Class had its best sales year ever in 2025, with the electric G-Class (officially the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology) ‘substantially contributing’ to the 49,700 customer (+23%) deliveries.

The German brand expects the iconic military-grade SUV to achieve better sales performance when the eagerly awaited new G‑Class Cabriolet and the Baby G joins the G-Class lineup.

“Customers can also look forward to new models of the G-Class that will expand the product offering,” Mercedes-Benz said, while hinting on the upcoming Mini G and the open-top G-Class Cabriolet first announced last year.

The return of the open-top G-Class this year follows the successful, ultra-exclusive Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet, which was limited to just 99 units and now a rare collector’s item since its debut in 2017.

“Whether it’s the original G‑Class or the new G‑Class Cabriolet ‑ every single one will ensure customers feel right at home behind the wheel,” Mercedes-Benz said while sharing the first images of camouflaged prototypes of the new G‑Class Cabriolet in Austria.

Both convertibles with a short wheelbase and station wagons with a short or long wheelbase have been produced since production of the G-Class started in 1979. The 600,000th model of the G-Class, an electric G 580 with EQ Technology, rolled off the assembly line last August in Graz, Austria.
