Elected Anambra LG chairmen get ANSIEC’s certificate of return

The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission has issued certificates of return to the newly elected 21 local government chairmen across the state.

They were elected during the local government election held on Saturday.

According to results announced by ANSIEC, the All Progressives Grand Alliance secured all 21 chairmanship seats and 364 councillorship positions.

The certificates were issued by the commission’s State Chairman, Genevieve Osakwe, on Tuesday.

Osakwe noted that the commission had the mandate to issue the certificates and urged the newly elected local government chairmen and councillors to discharge their duties effectively.

Osakwe commended the electoral process, assuring that there would be further improvements in subsequent elections.

She said, “By the requirements of the electoral processes, the commission is still saddled with the responsibility of issuing certificates of return to the elected chairmen and councillors as the legitimate leaders of their local government areas.

“We urge the newly elected officials to prioritise development and good governance in their respective localities.”

The newly elected chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Ikechukwu Okakpu, on behalf of the others, expressed gratitude to their constituents for trusting them with leadership roles.

The presentation ceremony was also attended by election observers, security agencies and members of the media.

The state electoral commission had declared the APGA candidates winners of all 21 chairmanship positions and 364 councillorship positions in Saturday’s local government election in the state.
