The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly detained former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

According to TheCable, sources disclosed that El-Rufai voluntarily honoured an invitation by the anti-graft agency and arrived at its headquarters on Monday.

The report said he will spend the night in custody as investigators question him over alleged financial improprieties during his tenure as governor.

“He is in our custody, and he is going to spend the night there,” a source said.

Another source, according to TheCable, said the former governor could be released on Tuesday depending on the progress of investigations.

The development comes after the Federal Government filed a three-count charge against El-Rufai over the alleged interception of communications belonging to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

He had also recently written to the Office of the National Security Adviser seeking clarification over an alleged procurement of thallium sulphate, insisting that transparency would strengthen public trust in public institutions.
