ECOWAS Begins Recruitment for Over 30 Positions in Nigeria, Other Member States

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting qualified citizens from its member states, including Nigeria, to apply for more than 30 vacant positions across its various institutions.

In a recruitment notice published on its official website on Thursday, the regional body said the exercise forms part of efforts to strengthen the implementation of its sectoral programmes and enhance operational capacity across key ECOWAS institutions.

The organisation urged interested and qualified candidates to submit their applications through its official careers portal at https://www.ecowas.int/careers/.

According to the notice, several of the available positions are based in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, where many of the bloc’s institutions and offices operate. The vacancies include Office Aide, Programme Assistant, Nurse, Protocol Assistant, Documentation and Archives Assistant, Office Manager (Bilingual Secretary), Junior Accountant (Disbursements), Accountant positions, Legal Officers, Political Adviser, Principal Officer roles, Registrar positions, Head of Division (Library and Documentation), and Head of Hansard.

ECOWAS also announced additional vacancies in other locations across West Africa and beyond. These include Administrative and Finance Officer in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Principal Programme Officer (Sports Policy) in Liberia; and Principal Programme Officer (Water Supply and Sanitation) in Conakry, Guinea. Other legal, administrative and programme management roles are available in Dakar, Senegal.

The regional bloc explained that applicants must meet specific age requirements depending on the category of the position being applied for. Candidates applying for General Services or Support positions (G1–G7) must not exceed 35 years of age, while those seeking Professional category roles (P1–P7) must be below 45 years. Director-level positions (D1–D2) have a maximum age requirement of 50 years.

ECOWAS also encouraged women across member states to take advantage of the recruitment exercise, noting that only shortlisted candidates would be contacted for further stages of the selection process.

Prospective applicants are required to download and complete the official ECOWAS application form, attach a curriculum vitae and a motivation or cover letter, and submit the documents through the designated email channels before the stipulated deadline.

“All applications must include the application form, CV and a cover letter. Applications that do not contain all mandatory documents will not be considered,” the notice stated.

The organisation fixed April 30, 2026, as the deadline for submission of applications.

ECOWAS further warned applicants to be cautious of fraudulent schemes, stressing that the organisation does not charge any fee at any stage of its recruitment process and does not request personal financial information from candidates.
