Ebonyi Govt Reacts As Businessman Rejects Appointment

The Ebonyi State government has reacted to the rejection of an appointment by businessman Emmanuel Eze to the state’s Economic Advisory Committee.

Naija News reports that Governor Francis Nwifuru had appointed Eze, CEO of Immaculate Group of Companies and former House of Representatives candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, to the advisory body.

Eze was formally notified of his appointment on August 29, 2025, through a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Grace Umezuruike.

He declined the position, explaining that the timing of the committee’s formation was not ideal.

Eze said economic teams are most effective when inaugurated early in an administration, and he prefers to continue contributing to the state’s development through his current role.

In response, the Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Leo Oketa, said the timing argument was mistaken, explaining that economic reforms and strategic development are long-term processes not tied to political calendars.

He stressed that the governor launched the committee after stabilizing key areas of governance and meeting immediate public needs, making it a strategic move for sustainable economic planning.

Oketa added that the refusal of one individual does not weaken the team’s credibility.

He stated that Governor Nwifuru has brought together a skilled and diverse group of professionals with national and international experience to guide the state’s economic agenda.

He said: “No one is indispensable. Let it also be made clear: no single individual is bigger than the collective vision. The Governor has assembled a credible, competent, and diverse team of highly respected professionals with proven national and international track records.

“The refusal of one person to serve does not invalidate the strength or relevance of the team, nor does it suggest that the one who declined is superior to those who have answered the call to duty.”
