Dubai Films and Games Commission highlighted the emirate’s expanding film production ecosystem during its participation at Cannes Film Festival 2026.

DUBAI: The Dubai Films and Games Commission participated in the 79th Cannes Film Festival as part of wider efforts to strengthen the emirate’s global standing in film production and creative industries. The event, taking place in Cannes from May 12 to 23, brought together leading studios, producers and international industry stakeholders from across the entertainment sector.

The Dubai delegation was led by Hesham Al Olama, Chief Executive Officer of the Dubai Films and Games Commission, who held discussions with major production companies and filmmakers to explore future partnerships and creative collaborations. Officials used the festival platform to showcase Dubai’s rapidly growing production infrastructure, filming capabilities and creative ecosystem.

Dubai’s participation reflects the emirate’s long term strategy to position itself as a global centre for film production. The city continues expanding its industry support through infrastructure development, streamlined filming approvals, talent initiatives and stronger international engagement.

Speaking during the festival, Hesham Al Olama said Cannes remains one of the most important global spaces for dialogue and partnership building within the film industry. He added that Dubai aims to create an environment where international productions can access world class facilities, advanced production expertise and efficient operational support.

Film Commissioner Samr Almarzooqi highlighted that Dubai’s presence at Cannes demonstrates the increasing global attention directed towards the emirate’s creative sector. She noted that the festival provides an important opportunity to present Dubai’s value proposition to international filmmakers and industry executives.

Dubai has continued attracting major global productions in recent years due to its modern infrastructure, diverse filming locations and strong government support. International projects filmed in the emirate include Amazon Prime Video’s Jack Ryan and Netflix Korean drama Genie, Make a Wish.

The Dubai Films and Games Commission, operating under Dubai Media Council, continues working to strengthen the emirate’s position within the international entertainment landscape through strategic partnerships and sector development initiatives.
