D’Tigers announce 12-Man squad for 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers

Nigeria’s national basketball team, the D’Tigers, have unveiled a 12-man roster for the 2027 FIBA World Cup African qualifying tournament, blending experienced overseas players with emerging domestic talents.

Head coach Abdulrahaman Mohammed confirmed that veteran guard Stanley Okoye, a 2015 Afrobasket champion and the team’s longest-serving player, will lead the squad.

The roster includes three home-based standouts: Lagos Legends duo Chinkpa Garba and Obekpa Chris, as well as Paul Dibal of Gboko City Chiefs, whose strong performances earned him a place on the team.

The D’Tigers have already departed for Tunisia, hosts of the competition, and will compete in Group C alongside Rwanda, Guinea, and the host nation.

“We have assembled a squad that balances experience and youth, domestic talent and international exposure. Our goal is to represent Nigeria proudly and compete at the highest level,” Coach Mohammed said.

The 2027 FIBA World Cup African qualifiers will take place across five windows, from November 2025 to February 2027. Sixteen teams that qualified for FIBA AfroBasket 2025 have been drawn into four groups of four.
