The Chairman of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), Justice Haruna Tsammani, has dismissed the petition filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) against Kashim Shettima, the Vice Presidential candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the current Vice President.

The dismissal was based on the grounds of incompetence. The court ruled that the concerns raised by the APM in its petition consisted of pre-election issues that could only be resolved by the Federal High Court.

Justice Tsammani additionally contended that the petitioner ought to have taken their case to the Federal High Court within a 14-day window following Shettima’s nomination as the Vice Presidential Candidate of the APC.

The Justice subsequently dismissed the petition due to its lack of merit.

The APM sought to disqualify Tinubu from participating in the presidential election scheduled for February 25. This was due to their claim that Tinubu had made an improper nomination of Senator Kashim Shettima as his vice presidential candidate.

The APM contended that selecting Shettima as Tinubu’s vice-presidential candidate violated the Electoral Act, which prohibits double nominations. Shettima was simultaneously running for a senatorial position when he was chosen as Tinubu’s running mate.
