Deadly Explosion Kills 16 In Borno, Government Enforces 24-Hour Curfew Lockdown

Borno State government has imposed 24-hour curfew after bombs explaosions killed 17 people at Kawuri community, Konduga Local Government Area, near Maiduguri.

Nahum Daso, spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, made this known in a statement released on Thursday, urging residents of the state to remain calm.

“In view of the constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security and law enforcement agencies toward the preservation of law and order in the state,” the statement said.

“You are all aware of the incident that took place at Kawori which was the detonation of improvised explosive devices ordinance device which led to the death of (16) persons while several others were critically injured and on admission across various Government hospitals in the state.”

He called on the people of Borno State to remain calm and law-abiding.

“Further developments will be communicated to you accordingly please.”

Borno State has been hard hit by terrorists attacks which started more than a decade ago. Scores of people have been killed by bomb explosions from terrorists and bandits across the state.

About 38, 255 persons were killed by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno between 2011 and 2023, according to Statista. The Borno State deaths surpass Zamfara’s (6,803), Kaduna (6,195), and Benue (4,391).
