Day 30: Together, We Win the Youth

Bible reading for 40.Day 2026 | Malachi 4:6 

In the Bible, we know that God is a God of generations. When God does something, He often works through generations:

To establish Israel, it was Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
To enter the Promised Land, it was Moses and Joshua
To build the temple, it was David and Solomon 

From this we can see that God’s plans are often bigger than one lifetime, one generation.

In the same way, what God wants to do in Singapore – in our churches – is bigger than one generation. It requires all the generations to work together.

That’s why I love the LoveSingapore theme for 2026 – “Together”. To see God’s plans fulfilled in our nation and in the different generations, we need to work together! 

This is also true when it comes to winning the youths of our nation. Every generation needs to work together. It’s not enough for the youths to reach youths. If we want to see a revival, every generation has a part to play. 

I know many of us are no longer youths, you could be in your 30s, 40s, 50s or even 80s… But no matter your age, if you think about it, all of us know a young person. It could be a nephew, a niece, friends’ kids, neighbours’ children or grandkids… God has put each of us all in places where we have some form of contact with a young person. 

The Bible says in the last days, “And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers…” (Malachi 4:6)

It starts with the hearts of the fathers turning to the children. The older generation needs to take the first step. 

When it comes to reaching the youths, we need to first turn our hearts to the next generation, to love and have a burden for the young people.

In the Bible, we see that in the life of Abraham. Abraham’s heart was turned to the next generation. He had a nephew whose name was Lot. 

Lot’s father was Abraham’s brother, and unfortunately, he died when Lot was young. What did Abraham do? 

Firstly, he took responsibility for young Lot, brought him into his home and family and took care of him. 

When Lot was taken captive by the enemy (Genesis 14:14-17), Abraham mobilised resources: He sent 318 trained men to go on a rescue mission to save Lot. (Genesis 14:14)

When Lot was far from God, Abraham prayed for Lot to be spared from the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18). God heard his prayers and Lot was saved. 

In the same way, we can be like Abraham. As we turn our hearts to the youth, will we 

1. Take responsibility for the youths

Winning the youths is not just the responsibility of the Youth Pastor or the youth ministry. All of us can take responsibility for the young people in our nation.

Maybe there is a young person that God has placed in your life. Will you take responsibility for him or her? None of us is too old – all of us can do something to win the youths!

2. Mobilise resources to support the youths

What resources has God given to you that you can use to play a part in reaching youths? Maybe it’s a skill. If you love to cook, you can cook for the youth. Maybe you have a home or premises that you can open up to the youths? Talk to the youth ministry in your church and ask how you can support them. 

Let’s mobilise our resources to reach the youths! 

Lastly, we can all:

3. Pray for the youths

Just like Abraham prayed for Lot, let’s pray for the youths in our nation. 

God hears your prayers. Do not stop praying! God will move! Your prayers can make a difference in the lives of the youths! 

Why am I so passionate about sharing this? Because that was what happened for me. 

When I was 12 years old, I was young and lost. I was going through some challenges at home. 

Right then, my Christian uncle stepped into my life. He cared for me, prayed for me and eventually brought me to church.

That was how I got to know Jesus in a deep way and my life was never the same again. 

My life was changed because my uncle reached out to me.

I am where I am today, because someone older took that step to bring me to God. 

Who knows – maybe there is a young Garrett in your life that God wants you to reach out to. God can use you to change the life of a youth!

Come, let’s pray.

Dear heavenly Father, today we want to pray for the youths in our nation. We pray that many will come to know You and grow in their purpose and destiny in You. 

God, will You turn our hearts to the young people? Open our eyes to see the ones You have placed in our lives – a nephew, a niece, a neighbour’s kid … Use us to bring Your love to them. 

God, I pray that as every generation comes together to win the youths in our nation, we will see a revival among the young people like never before! 

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen! 

Reflect:

1. Who is a young person God has put in your life?
   
2. If we are of the older generation, are we willing and ready to take the first step to reach out to young people?

3. Will we let God use us to change the life of a young person?

Pray:

1. That we will take responsibility for the youths God has placed in our lives, to teach and guide them in the ways of the Lord.

2. That we will mobilise whatever gifts and resources God has given us to support the youths in our lives.

3. That, like Abraham, we will desire to pray and intercede for young people, trusting God to bring transformation to their lives.
