What You Will Walk Away With

  2. True Faith Seeks God, Not Just His Blessings — You will understand that faith that pleases God goes beyond receiving blessings; it is a deep trust in who He is and a sincere pursuit of His presence.
  3. Abiding in Christ Is the Foundation of Pleasing God — You will learn that pleasing God is not about striving in your own strength, but about remaining connected to Christ, the Vine.

Devotional

Pleasing God is the desire of every believer. We want to hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” We want our lives to bring Him joy, honor, and glory. We want to know that we are living in a way that delights His heart.

Yet Scripture makes it clear that it is impossible to please Him without faith. Not without works. Not without effort. Not without perfect obedience. Without faith. This means that faith is not just important—it is foundational to your relationship with God.

Before you can do anything that pleases God, you must trust Him. Before your actions can bring Him joy, your heart must be anchored in belief. Faith is the soil in which every pleasing action grows.

So what does this faith look like? The writer of Hebrews tells us: “For he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.”

Two truths are essential. First, you must believe that God exists—that He is real, living, present. Second, you must believe that He rewards those who diligently seek Him—that He is good, that He responds, that He draws near to those who pursue Him.

Faith that pleases God is not superficial or occasional. It is not something you turn on when you need something and turn off when you don’t. It is a deep trust in who He is and a sincere pursuit of His presence.

This kind of faith goes beyond words. It is expressed through a life that consistently trusts, obeys, and depends on God. It is not driven by circumstances, emotions, or convenience—it is rooted in conviction. It says, “I trust You whether I feel like it or not. I trust You whether circumstances are favorable or not. I trust You because You are worthy.”

One key aspect of pleasing God is abiding in Christ. Jesus taught, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5).

Notice the phrase: “Without Me ye can do nothing.” Not “without Me you can do some things.” Not “without Me you can do most things.” Nothing. Apart from Christ, you cannot please God. You cannot produce fruit. You cannot live the life He calls you to.

But when you abide in Christ—when you remain connected to Him, draw life from Him, rest in Him—your life naturally begins to reflect His will. Fruit is not produced by striving; it is produced by abiding.

Faith that pleases God also seeks Him above all else. It is not primarily focused on receiving blessings, but on knowing God more deeply. The reward of seeking God is God Himself.

Many people come to God with a list of requests. They want His hand more than His face. They want His blessings more than His presence. But faith that pleases God says, “I want You. Not just what You can give me. You.”

When your heart is set on Him, your desires begin to align with His. You stop asking for things that would harm you. You start wanting what He wants. Your will becomes conformed to His will.

There is also a reward in this kind of faith. God responds to those who seek Him diligently. He does not hide from those who pursue Him. He reveals Himself to those who seek. He guides, strengthens, and draws near to those who trust Him.

This does not mean a transactional relationship—as if you seek God and He gives you things. It is a relational one. The reward is not separate from God; the reward is God. You seek Him, and you find Him. You pursue Him, and He draws near. That is the reward.

Pleasing God requires consistency. It is not about occasional acts of faith, but a continual posture of trust and surrender. It is not about having a “mountain top” experience and then coasting. It is day by day, decision by decision, choosing to rely on Him.

As your faith grows, your relationship with God becomes more intimate. You begin to understand His heart. You recognize His voice more clearly. You follow His leading with greater confidence.

Christ-Centered Focus

Ultimately, faith that pleases God is centered in Christ. Through Him, you are accepted, empowered, and able to walk in a way that honors God.

It is not your faith that pleases God—it is the Object of your faith. You are not pleasing God because you believe so strongly; you are pleasing God because you believe in the right One. Christ is the reason your faith is acceptable. He is the one who makes you pleasing to the Father.

Through Him, you have access to God. Through Him, your weak faith is received. Through Him, your imperfect trust is honored. He is the way, the truth, and the life.

Conclusion

Today, do not strive to please God through effort alone. Do not try to earn His approval by working harder. Come to Him in faith. Believe that He is. Believe that He rewards those who seek Him. And abide in Christ, the Vine.

Your faith—even as small as a mustard seed—pleases God because it trusts in His Son.

Prayer

Lord, help me to walk in faith that pleases You. Teach me to seek You with all my heart and to trust You in every area of my life. Keep me rooted in Christ and dependent on Him. I do not want to strive in my own strength; I want to abide in the Vine. Let my life bring You joy.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Declaration

  • I declare that my life pleases God through faith.
  • I declare that I seek God diligently.
  • I declare that I abide in Christ daily.
  • I declare that my faith is genuine and consistent.

Action Points

  1. Spend intentional time seeking God beyond personal requests. Set aside time to simply be with Him—not asking for anything, just seeking His presence.
  2. Evaluate your motives and align them with God’s will. Ask: “Am I seeking God’s hand or His face? Do I want Him, or just what He gives?”
  3. Practice abiding in Christ through prayer and the Word. Before you strive, rest. Before you act, abide.
