DANIEL WHYTE III, PRESIDENT OF GOSPEL LIGHT SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL, SAYS KEION HENDERSON’S “GIVING TO THE POOR” CONTROVERSY IS ANOTHER CASE OF MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING — SIMILAR TO THE CASE OF WHEN “HE TOLD A WOMAN TO SHUT UP” IN CHURCH. THIS STRANGE, OBSCURE ISSUE WAS PROBABLY COOKED UP BY HIS PUBLICITY TEAM TO BRING MORE ATTENTION TO HIM. BESIDES THAT, KEION HENDERSON IS NOT A BIG PLAYER IN THE EVANGELICAL/CHRISTIAN/CHARISMATIC THEOLOGICAL GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS. KEION IS NO THEOLOGIAN. AT BEST HE IS A JACK-LEG PREACHER. HE IS A WANNA-BE. THIS IS THE REASON KEION IS A SYCOPHANT TO THE CORRUPT, ALLEGEDLY POWER-BOTTOM HOMOSEXUAL T.D. JAKES. WHAT KEION HAS GOING FOR HIM ARE SILLY-MINDED WOMEN WHO THINK HE IS TALL, DARK, AND HANDSOME AND WEARS EXPENSIVE CLOTHES, BUT AS WHYTE SAID RECENTLY, KEION HENDERSON IS NOT A BIG DOG EITHER AND LACKS GOOD JUDGEMENT BECAUSE BIG DOGS DO NOT MARRY THE WIFE OF ANOTHER BIG DOG WHO HAS A FULL-GROWN FAMILY JUST AS TALL AS HE IS THINKING THAT BY MARRYING ANOTHER BIG DOG’S WIFE AND WHOLE FAMILY IS GOING TO MAKE HIM A BIG DOG. IN REALITY IT MAKES HIM A LITTLE DOG. AS WHYTE SAID BEFORE, NO MATTER HOW WONDERFUL KEION AND SHAUNIE TRY TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THEIR MARRIAGE IS THE GREATEST MARRIAGE SINCE ADAM AND EVE, IT IS GOING TO END BADLY — CASE IN POINT: EMMITT SMITH, THE GREATEST RUNNING-BACK IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL AND A GOOD CHRISTIAN MAN FOOLISHLY MARRYING BIG DOG MARTIN LAWRENCE’S WIFE.
*1. NOW REGARDING THE STRANGE “GIVING TO THE POOR” CAPER CONTROVERSY, AS WAS THE CASE IN THE “TELLING THE WOMAN TO SHUT UP IN CHURCH CAPER” ALL PASTORS KNOW IN BOTH CASES, KEION IS BASICALLY RIGHT. REGARDING THE “GIVING TO THE POOR CAPER,” ALL HE IS SAYING IS THAT ALL CHRISTIANS OUGHT TO TITHE AND GIVE TO THE LOCAL CHURCH FIRST AND GIVE OUT OF THEIR ABUNDANCE TO THE POOR AS THE LORD LEADS THEM. IT IS BOTH AND — NOT ONE OR THE OTHER. WHERE KEION MESSED UP WAS WHEN HE SAID GOD WILL NOT BLESS PEOPLE FINANCIALLY FOR GIVING TO THE POOR WHEN THE BIBLE CLEARLY STATES THAT GOD DOES BLESS GIVING TO THE POOR.
*2. THE REASON MANY PEOPLE REBUKED AND CHALLENGED KEION HENDERSON ON THIS IS THAT PEOPLE ARE SICK AND TIRED OF PREACHERS LIKE HIM USING GOD’S TITHES AND OFFERINGS TO PUT ON CLOTHES TO WEAR IN THE PULPIT THAT COST MORE THAN THEY HAVE IN THE BANK, TO LIVE IN A BIG FINE HOUSE ON PORK CHOP HILL, AND TO DRIVE BENTLEYS WHEN THEY DRIVE TO CHURCH IN A FORD FIESTA, PARTICULARLY WHEN JESUS CHRIST, THE LORD AND SAVIOR HAD NO PLACE TO LAY HIS HEAD.
*3. WHYTE SAYS WHEN HE USES THE TERM “BIG DOG,” HE IS NOT REFERRING TO WHETHER OR NOT A MAN IS WELL-ENDOWED, BUT RATHER A MAN WHO HAS ACCOMPLISHED BIG THINGS IN HIS FIELD AND WHO HAS A BIG PERSONALITY AS DOES SHAQ AND MARTIN LAWRENCE. WHYTE HAS TOLD YOUNG MEN DOWN THROUGH THE YEARS: MARRY YOUR “OWN” WIFE; DO NOT MARRY ANOTHER MAN’S WIFE. DO NOT EVER COME AFTER OR BEHIND ANOTHER MAN FOR HIS SLOPPY SECONDS. AND CERTAINLY DO NOT MARRY ANOTHER BIG DOG’S WIFE THINKING THAT YOUR MARRYING HER WILL MAKE YOU LOOK BIG TO OTHERS. JUST REMEMBER EVERYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO WITH THAT WOMAN OR TO THAT WOMAN, HER FIRST HUSBAND HAS ALREADY DONE IT AND MORE, AND UNLIKE A MAN, THAT WOMAN WILL NEVER FORGET HER FIRST HUSBAND. ONCE SHE GETS TIRED OF YOU, HER FIRST BIG DOG HUSBAND CAN STILL GET IT AND MAKE HER LAUGH HER HEAD OFF — AND YOU ARE STUCK THERE LOOKING LIKE A LITTLE DOG.

Megachurch Pastor Keion Henderson recently drew backlash from pastors and Christians over a resurfaced clip from one of his 2023 sermons where he told congregants that they receive “wealth” or blessing from God by giving to the poor but only when they tithe to church. In the sermon, titled “It’s All About The Benjamins,” Henderson, the founder and CEO of The Lighthouse Church & Ministries in Houston, Texas, said he finds it problematic that the church donates to someone whenever they are in need.

“Let me tell you something: the poor will be with you always, and there is no blessing connected to blessing the poor other than getting back what you gave to them, but no multiplication,” Henderson said.

“Multiplication is segregated for tithes and offerings. When you give to the poor, the only thing you do is help them, but you don’t help yourself,” he insisted.

“So when you give a dollar to somebody on the street talking about ‘I did my job, God.’ Like thank you, but it ain’t going to help you,” Henderson said. “Read your Bible. Charity does not bring wealth; only the tithe does that.”

In a statement to The Christian Post, Brian Smith, a spokesperson for The Light House Church & Ministries, explained that Henderson’s message was taken out of context.

“Unfortunately, the few seconds shown are completely without the context of the entire message, which is that one should not wholly substitute tithing with giving to individuals. It is absolutely not true that the sermon was meant to discourage individual, reasonable service,” Smith said.

“Rather, in addition to this reasonable service, one should also give to God because it is He who can provide the multiplication, thereby allowing one to use His blessings to aid their brothers and sisters.”

The spokesperson also listed the church’s own history of charitable giving.

“The Church’s benevolence program has provided more than $451,000 this year in charitable giving, including to neighbors in need, local students, and scholarships to graduating high school seniors. In August, our Lightfest back-to-school event gave free school supplies to 700 local kids. We have 30 different ministries that bring hope, strength, and love to anyone seeking God’s Grace and Salvation,” Smith said while arguing that Malachi 3:10 requires Christians to tithe.

Henderson’s message drew criticism online, with some believing that the pastor was attempting to manipulate his followers to give him as much money as possible.

“What Keion Henderson is preaching is not of God. This is blasphemy,” wrote Dallas Cowboys beat writer Clarence Hill Jr. on X. “Preaching well and being true to God are not one and the same. This man wants your money. He is not trying to save souls.”

Meanwhile, John Wesley of Truth Unveiling Ministries contended that Henderson’s message contradicts Scripture.

“He was better off saying just give me your money than coming up with something that does not coincide with the text,” Wesley said while citing Acts 20:35.

The Scripture states: “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'”

Wesley noted that Henderson was hypocritical in his teachings since he recently claimed that God told him his followers would give him $4.4 million in three weeks. Henderson also claimed that after Hurricane Beryl caused $20 million in damage to three of his church’s four campuses this summer, God told him He damaged the churches so he could rebuild facilities twice as big.

“God gave me a vision, and He said we can do it in 21 days. I’m asking 2,100 people to give $2,100 in the next 21 days, and what we’re calling it is ‘Out of the Harbor,'” Henderson said. “I call you from California. I call you from New York. I call you from Florida. I call you from the U.K. I call you from Africa to join us in our call to action: 2,100 people, $2,100, 21 days, to kickstart our efforts to get back into our building.”

When asked whether God delivered the $4.4 million in three weeks, Smith replied that the church “received a generous outpouring.”

“After the launch of the Out of the Harbor campaign, we received a generous outpouring from our members, as well as friends around the world. We are grateful for their love and support in our seasons of resilience, revival, and rejoicing,” Smith said.

Wesley said it would be outrageous for Henderson to preach this kind of a message now, especially that so many people are suffering from storm damage around the country.

“The truth of the matter is, it’s all about the money. There’s people right now who are suffering due to the storms. Why would you tell people that there’s no blessing in giving to the poor? Who do you think the Gospel was preached to throughout the text? Our Lord, He helped the poor people,” Wesley argued.

“When He blessed them, He [didn’t] look for anything in return. The Lord said, ‘When I was hungry, you didn’t feed Me.’ He was speaking to the goats, the people who pretended like they had love, but they didn’t show any compassion towards the poor.”

Wesley quoted from Proverbs 19:17 to criticize Henderson’s message, which states: “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.”

THE BIG QUESTION
GOSPEL LIGHT MINUTE X #447 WITH DANIEL WHYTE III

This is the “Chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #447 titled, “The Big Question” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

“HAVE YOU BEEN BORN AGAIN?”
The question is not “Have you joined a church?” or “Are you trying to do your best?” or “Do you have religion?” but “Are you twice-born?” Jesus Christ said in John 3:3, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”.
We enter the physical world by birth. Spiritual life likewise is entered with a birth. We become members of a human family by birth; we become members of the family of God by birth, by being “born again.” There is no other way to get into the human family except by birth, and there is no other way to get into God’s family except by the new birth. Neither education, nor cultivation, nor reformation, nor “turning over a new leaf,” will accomplish this. What is needed is not a new “leaf” but a new “life”! “Ye must be born again” (John 3:7).

A New Nature Needed
By physical birth we become partakers of human nature; by being born again we become “partakers of the divine nature”. A Christian is the product of a divine “begetting”. The second birth is not an improvement of the old nature; it is the imparting of an entirely new nature. The old nature is hopelessly corrupt and incapable of ever being made fit for His presence. The new birth requires a creative act of the Holy Spirit. “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature”.

Not “Trying” But “Trusting”

“Trying to follow Christ” is not Christianity. Christianity is not imitation of Christ, it is the indwelling of Christ. Christianity is not trying to do anything. It is trusting Christ Who has done it all! He has “finished the work” and there is nothing left to do but simply to receive and trust Him. He shed His precious blood on the cross and the work is all done once and forever! Cease trying and begin trusting! Believers will progressively become more and more like Christ, but by His power, not their own.

What Must I Do To Be Saved?
Simply “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ”. The Bible says in 1 John 5:1, “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God”. The Bible states in John 1:12,13, “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God”.
You are born again, you become a Christian by trusting a Person—receiving a Person. The very moment you do this, the Lord Jesus Christ comes in and life begins!

What Is Meant By “Believe”?
To “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ” means more than simply believing the historic facts concerning Him. Intellectual belief about Christ is not sufficient. The belief that brings salvation must be “with the heart,” that is, with the whole being. This belief also includes repentance: “Repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ”. The Bible states in Acts 17:30, “God … now commandeth all men every where to repent”.

The faith which saves, then, includes the necessity to repent, and to receive Christ as Saviour and Lord, to rest upon Him alone for salvation. It means to trust Him so utterly and completely that, if He should fail, there would be no hope at all!

May I Know That I Am Born Again?
This is an important question. We know that we are born again by the testimony of God’s Word. God says in John 5:24, “He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life”. Have you believed on the Lord Jesus Christ as explained by God’s Word? If so, then you are saved, you are “born again,” you have “passed from death unto life.” God says so! Take God at His Word, and go on your way rejoicing!

One Final Word
You may “belong to a church,” you may be “trying to do the best you can,” you may be “striving to live right.” Your outward life may be the model of moral correctness, and you may be looked up to, honored, revered, and respected. Yet, if you have not been “born again” you are just as lost as if you had never heard of Christ. Yes, you may teach in the Sunday school, read the Bible, sing, shout, “feel happy,” and all the rest—but if you have never been “born again” you are still in your sins and a stranger to the Lord Jesus Christ!.

If you want to be saved from the wrath to come and from an eternity in Hell, and if you believe that Jesus Christ suffered, bled, and died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead and you are willing to trust Jesus Christ with all of your heart so you can go to Heaven, please pray with me what is called the sinner’s prayer: Holy Father God, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I admit that I have sinned against You and that I have broken Your Ten Commandments. I have lied before. I have stolen things before. I have lusted after people and things before. I have dishonored and disobeyed my parents. I have taken Your holy Name in vain. For Jesus Christ’s sake, please have mercy and grace upon my soul and forgive me of all of my sins, my failures, and my faults. As I now believe in Your Holy Son the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that He suffered, bled, and died on the cross for my sins, was buried and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to repent of my sins past. Help me to turn from my old, evil life and follow You in the new life. For it is in Your Name I pray. Amen.
