CM Punk ‘would do cartwheels’ if AJ Lee returns to WWE

Earlier this month, NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez mentioned that CM Punk is trying to get AJ Lee to return to WWE, just like he finally did last year at Survivor Series.

That story came to mind today when I heard Jimmy Traina ask Punk on the SI Media podcast if he is able to push his wife in that direction. Here is CM’s response:

“You cannot possibly push my wife in any direction she does not want to go.

I get this question every single time I’m interviewed. I do not mind because it makes sense to me. Because I am as big a fan of AJ Lee as your niece or all of her legions of fans. She inspired an entire generation of female wrestlers, and I think you’re seeing a lot of them come through NXT now. There’s even some that are on the indies, and everything like that. So, what she did resonated.

As a fan, one hundred percent, I would do cartwheels if she came back. But I cannot make her do anything. And that’s not the relationship we have. I would never try to force her to do anything I wouldn’t want to do myself, even though that sounds weird because I came back.”

Punk then shot down the notion that AJ might have a bigger itch to return after hearing the live reactions he gets on TV each week:

“She doesn’t care about any of that. No. I think a lot of it has to boil down to, because she is extremely busy doing all her other projects and stuff like that. So it’s a question of does she even have the time? You know? It’s a fascinating question.”
