Chevrolet Launches Two New Corvette Limited Edition Models Just For Japan

General Motors knows that Japanese buyers are fond of special editions, so they launched two new versions of the Chevrolet Corvette, exclusively available in the Land of the Rising Sun. Both have nostalgic references, with the Edition CERV I being inspired by an experimental concept and the Heritage Edition harking back to the C1 Corvette from 1953.

The CERV I was the first Chevrolet Experimental Research Vehicle in 1959. The mid-engined single-seater was developed by Zora Arkus-Duntov, also known as the father of the Corvette. The new CERV I Edition of the C8 Corvette features blue stripes on a Silver Flare Metallic shade, mimicking the livery of the concept. It also features Edge Yellow brake calipers contrasting with the black five-spoke wheels. Finally, the interior combines Jet Black and Navy Blue shades for the upholstery.

Chevrolet Corvette Edition CERV I

Moving on, the Chevrolet C8 Corvette Heritage Edition is inspired by the first generation of the American sportscar, which was introduced in 1953. The most obvious reference is the Adrenaline Red interior, a signature element of the C1. Chevrolet designers chose a more discreet Seawolf Gray Tri-Coat finish for the exterior, a first for the Japanese market, matched with a set of 20-inch forged aluminum wheels finished in gloss black.

The special editions don’t bring any performance upgrades compared to the standard Stingray, retaining the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine with 495 hp (369 kW / 502 PS) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque.

The Edition CERV I and Heritage Edition Corvettes are already available for sale via Chevrolet’s dealer network in Japan. General Motors will offer 40 right-hand drive units of the special editions broken down to 15 examples of each coupe and 5 examples of each convertible.

The coupe versions are priced at ¥15,100,000 ($102,119) for the Edition Cerv I and ¥17,400,000 ($117,674) for the Heritage Edition, while the rarer convertibles have an equal price tag of ¥18,900,000 ($127,818). The standard Corvette Stingray starts at ¥14,200,000 ($96,032) in Japan.
