Chelsea Match Unwanted FA Cup Record After Wembley Defeat to Man City

Chelsea matched an unfortunate FA Cup record after suffering a 1-0 loss to Manchester City in Saturday’s final at Wembley Stadium.

A brilliant improvised finish from Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo proved decisive, handing City victory and securing their second domestic cup triumph of the season.

Pep Guardiola’s side entered the final looking to bounce back from consecutive FA Cup final defeats to Manchester United in 2024 and Crystal Palace in 2025, and they responded with a composed performance to reclaim the trophy.

According to Opta, Chelsea have now become the first club since Leicester City between 1949 and 1969 to lose four straight FA Cup finals.

Club captain Reece James also joined an unwanted list, becoming only the second player in history — alongside Paul Bracewell — to feature in four FA Cup finals and end on the losing side each time.

Chelsea’s most recent FA Cup success came in 2018, when Eden Hazard’s first-half penalty secured a narrow win over Manchester United.

Manchester City’s latest triumph takes their total number of FA Cup titles to eight, drawing them level with Chelsea’s tally in the competition.
