Charles Inojie Opens Up on Painful Childhood Experience

Charles Inojie has opened up about the painful realities of his childhood, sharing a deeply personal story marked by rejection, hardship, and resilience. During a candid conversation with Chude Jideonwo, the Nollywood star revealed that he spent only eight months living with his father throughout his entire life. After that brief period, their relationship became distant, shaped more by absence than presence. His father, who lived in Sango Ota at the time, remained largely out of reach as Inojie grew up navigating life on his own.

He recalled that his struggles began early, describing his upbringing as one filled with “trouble from the moment I arrived.” The situation worsened when tensions at home escalated, leading to a life-altering decision. According to Inojie, his stepmother demanded that his father choose between her and him. Faced with that ultimatum, his father chose his marriage, leaving the young boy to find his way outside the home.

That moment, he said, pushed him onto the streets, where he had to survive on his own. Though he spoke with a touch of humour, suggesting that “the street” may have shaped him for the better, the weight of that experience was evident in his story.

Despite everything, Inojie expressed no hatred toward his father. Instead, he described their relationship as one between strangers who share a bond by blood. He admitted that he still loves him, but acknowledged the emotional distance between them. Reflecting on his father’s actions, he suggested that some men struggle to admit when they have nothing to offer, often masking their limitations rather than confronting them.

The actor also shared how his educational journey almost came to a halt. After gaining admission into the university, he returned home with excitement, hoping for support. Instead, he was met with resistance. His stepmother, he said, laughed at the news and insisted that he delay his education, arguing that she could not “labour for another woman’s child.”

She reportedly demanded that he wait until her much younger child was old enough so they could attend school together. The request, Inojie noted, would have meant putting his life on hold for nearly two decades—a sacrifice he was unwilling to make.

Choosing instead to pursue his dreams, he pushed forward despite the obstacles, determined to build a better future for himself. That decision would later prove pivotal, as he went on to establish himself as one of Nollywood’s most beloved comic actors.
