Celtic complete signing of Iheanacho

Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have confirmed the signing of Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

The 28-year-old joins on a one-year deal with the option of a further year after parting ways with LaLiga side Sevilla on Monday.

Iheanacho scored three times in 15 appearances for Sevilla before finishing last season on loan at English Championship side Middlesbrough.

The forward reunites with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who coached him during their time together at Leicester City.

“I know Kelechi so well and what he can bring to the team. He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work-rate,” Rodgers told the club’s website.

“I am sure he will love being at Celtic and I believe our fans will love what he brings. He has great experience and he is right in his peak years so he can be a great signing for us. I am sure he will make a big contribution to the team.”

Iheanacho began his career at Manchester City, where he won the League Cup, before making over 200 appearances for Leicester City, helping them to FA Cup glory in 2021.
