Call to Action: Scripture Union Nigeria Urges Government and Lawmakers to Stand Against Same-Sex Relationships

Over the weekend, the Scripture Union Nigeria issued a strong plea to the Federal Government, legislators across all levels of governance, and various Christian organizations, urging them to resist the push for legalization of lesbianism and bisexualism.

At a press briefing hosted at the union’s headquarters in Samonda, Ibadan, Oyo State, the union’s National Chairman, Wilfred Onu, alongside the General Director, Uwem Udoh, emphasized the grave implications of such legislation on a global scale.

“There is a deep concern over the growing acceptance of these non-scriptural concepts, in direct opposition to the clear guidance provided in the Holy Bible and in defiance of the legal ramifications outlined in the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act of 2014 and other state laws that criminalize such activities within Nigeria,” stated Onu.

“The propagation of such ideologies by certain religious and political figures, particularly in the Western sphere, is alarming. We can no longer remain silent and allow this immoral movement to erode the very fabric of societal decency, values, and public morality.

“Being a union grounded in Biblical doctrines, we reaffirm our commitment to upholding traditional Christian morals and values. We assert that the core of the LGBTQ+ ideology is unscriptural, immoral, and built on falsehoods and a disregard for humane living.

“Therefore, we urge the entire Christian community to stand firm in promoting God’s love and redemption for all while unequivocally rejecting the LGBTQ+ ideologies that contradict the teachings of the Holy Bible.

“We implore all Christians and those who genuinely care for humanity to defend the sanctity of family life and a dignified society. The union staunchly opposes the detrimental agendas of individuals, organizations, and agencies that advocate for these ideologies.

“Moreover, as a union entrusted with the divine task of catering to children, youths, and families, we are dedicated to shielding, safeguarding, defending, and advancing their innocence against harmful influences that stray from Biblical doctrines. We advocate for the preservation of traditional family values and the sanctity of marriage as prescribed in the Scriptures.”
