Breezy Looks For Summer That Are Top-Heavy Friendly

The comfiest summer styles tend to be light and easy-breezy, but they don’t always take fuller busts into account. Sure, you might find the occasional bodysuit or that one dress you can reach for year after year, but what about ruffly, barely-there tops, cutout jumpsuits, or bathing suits with actual support? We sifted through years of notes and (web) pages of bestsellers to find cute, high-quality tops, dresses, and swimsuits that prioritize comfort and support without sacrificing style.

A tank top that won’t show your bra straps…

We love this easy Old Navy tank for its thick straps and double-layered jersey material. It’s body-hugging and supportive without being restrictive. It’s a great base layer (or single layer for when it's scorching-hot out). Oh, and it’s under $20.

A tank dress that’s meant to be layered…

We asked one editor to style this one-piece and she’s since added every color to her cart. It works with a sports bra, regular bra, or no bra, thanks to the fitted bodysuit (with shorts included) underneath. Throw it on with a pair of sandals for a quick errand run or casual picnic.

A breezy 100% European linen dress for outdoor brunches…

The key to nailing the midi dress look with a fuller bust comes down to finding the right silhouette. Swap the popular “sack” dress that does nothing for the figure with this flowy, A-line option. It has adjustable straps and a stretchy smocked back for added comfort, and a billowy skirt that won’t make you hot.

A lace-trim romper that’s fitted but not tight…

One-and-done looks are a total time-saver during those busy summer months. You can throw this romper on with Converse and a tote for a casual daytime look, or with kitten heels and a matching clutch for a night out. The cinched waist prevents it from looking boxy, while the lace details add extra flair.

A maxi dress you can dance the night away in…

One of our shopping editors wore this dress for a wedding rehearsal dinner and confirmed it’s even more comfortable than she expected. Every layer is stretchy and lightweight, but not see-through. The open back is also high enough to cover your bra’s band — a true feat.

A one-piece bathing suit that’s period-friendly…

We’re big fans of Knix’s period-proof undies, so when they came out with leakproof swimwear, our editors were all over it. And just as we suspected, these suits are cute, effective, and comfortable for fuller busts. This one in particular has compression technology built-in for a smoothing, body-contour effect, and has the absorbency level of up to three regular tampons. It also has UPF 50+ protection and will hold the girls up with minimal shoulder or neck strain. PS: You can save 20% on Knix Swim from now until July 13.

A one-piece suit with built-in shapewear…

Few brands know shapewear like MiracleSuit knows shapewear. We’re not sure what kind of body-hugging sorcery they put into their styles, but every piece is stretchy, comfortable, and form-fitting in the best way possible. Most of their suits (this one included) have an underwire bra sewn in so you can avoid that dreaded saggy look.

A ruffle tank that’s DD-cup approved…

So many flouncy, summery tops leave zero room in the chest, but this one might just be our favorite exception. It’s super lightweight but not sheer, and the halter neck and fully-covered back make it easy to wear with a bra.

A high-neck dress with just enough stretch…

We love any smocked material for its stretchy, comfortable, fits-no-matter-what vibe. The entire bodice of this dress is smocked, while the A-line skirt gives it a nice hourglass shape. It’s a great date night option you can dress up with heels, or down with a denim jacket and sneakers.

A T-shirt dress that won’t feel like a potato sack…

The comfort of an oversized T-shirt, with an A-line tiered silhouette — that’s what we love most about this under-$20 dress from Walmart (whose summer looks are exceptional, by the way). It comes in sizes XS-4X and colors you’ll want to wear well into fall.

A dress that hugs you in all the right places…

This T-shirt dress has a sewn-in belt that ties at the front to create a flattering, waist-accentuating shape. It’s light as air and has two deep pockets.

An elevated tank you can dress up or down...

We love this tank for a few reasons, but the flattering ruched material on the side and elegant boat neckline are probably our top two. Like most tanks, it's super versatile and can be paired with jeans and sneakers or a flow-y maxi skirt and ballet flats. Whatever you wear it with, make sure to add a chunky pair of statement earrings to compliment the neckline.

An office-approved blouse you can wear out on the weekends…

Our Parisian-chic pick of the season. This blouse is looser in the chest area and fitted at the waist to create an almost peplum shape that we’d pair with a long maxi skirt or flowy pants. Reviewers recommend sizing up if you’re in between sizes.

A cropped button-down shirt you can wear with anything…

White button-downs for summer are what LBDs are for fall and winter (and probably spring, too): a must. This one from Buck Mason is extremely high quality, meaning it holds up well in the wash and won’t yellow over time. Given that it’s slightly cropped, we love pairing it with high-waisted denim shorts or layering it over a maxi dress as added protection against the sun.

A comfy one-piece that’s basically an instant outfit…

In case you haven’t heard, it’s officially a Sporty Spice Summer, and we’re adding this one-piece jumpsuit to the shopping list. It’s cozy like a lounge set but has cutouts on the back, plus wide arm holes to keep you cool and comfortable — especially on warm travel days.
