BREAKING: Tinubu Sacks Edun, Dangiwa, Elevates Oyedele as Finance Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), removing Wale Edun and Ahmed Dangiwa from their positions as ministers.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Yomi Odunuga, who said the decision was contained in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.

According to the memo, the President approved the appointment of Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, replacing Edun.

Similarly, Dr. Muttaqha Darma has been named Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development, taking over from Dangiwa.

The SGF directed the outgoing ministers to commence immediate handover processes to their successors or designated supervising officials.

According to the directive, all handover and transition activities must be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Akume said the President’s decision was aimed at strengthening coordination within the cabinet and improving policy delivery across critical sectors of the economy.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akume stated.

He noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the adjustments.

The SGF also conveyed the President’s appreciation to Edun and Dangiwa for their service to the country, wishing them success in their future endeavours.

Akume added that the process of reinvigorating the cabinet would remain continuous as the administration works to accelerate implementation of its economic and development agenda.

Oyedele’s appointment comes barely a month after he was named Minister of State for Finance in March 2026, while Edun had served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy since August 16, 2023, when the current cabinet was inaugurated.

The latest shake-up is expected to trigger fresh policy direction within the nation’s economic management team and the housing sector as the administration pushes forward with its Renewed Hope reform programme.
