The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Benin City, Edo State, has been attacked by unknown hoodlums.

The invaders reportedly destroyed property and carted away valuable items.

The unrest is linked to the aftermath of the September 2024 governorship election in Edo State. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election. Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, defeating PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes. Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata came third with 22,763 votes.

However, the PDP has rejected the results and filed petitions to challenge the outcome.

The latest attack coincided with a similar situation during a session at the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi.

Gunmen had stormed the tribunal venue, causing panic among lawyers, politicians, and observers present. Similar to Thursday’s incident, gunshots were fired.
