Pep Guardiola reveals major injury for key Man City star before Chelsea clash and Arsenal battle
Manchester City are set to be without star player John Stones once again as Pep Guardiola confirmed an injury blow for the defender.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that John Stones is an injury concern for the side yet again, expecting the defender to be “out for a while”. It comes following the side’s involvement in Champions League action on Tuesday night against Swiss outfit Young Boys.

City won the game comfortably, scoring three goals past their opposition and allowing for Guardiola to make some rotation to his team. A number of key stars were able to be rested once the game was firmly in their control, which will be a tough balance over such a busy period of the season.

As such, there’s already another injury concern with Stones after the defender came off at half-time to be replaced by Nathan Ake. Speaking to TNTSports after the game, Guardiola confirmed: “Unfortunately John [Stones] felt [an injury] again, so I feel so sorry for him because he is so incredible for showing commitment and is a big loss for us.

John is so important, you know, for what he does but yeah, recover and the season is long and we will be back stronger.” When asked if Stones will be “out for a while”, Guardiola replied: “Yeah, I think so…”

The England international already missed a chunk of action at the start of the campaign, with the manager being forced to look elsewhere in his side to replace him. A fresh injury will be a blow to the player and City before an important run of games as the fixture schedule gets busier.

The first of those Stones is set to miss is against Chelsea, with the champions set to make the trip down to London over the course of the weekend. The Blues recorded a huge win over Tottenham last time out, handing Mauricio Pochettino a much-needed boost before facing City.

The longer-term ramifications for the injury to Stones could be felt in the Premier League title race though, with the top of the table still especially tight. Arsenal are looking to knock Man City off of their throne this season after going so close last time out, with just a few points separating the side.

Any injury and the knock-on effects could be huge for either team, with Stones just the latest casualty of an extremely busy and demanding fixture list.
