Boniface unlikely to play for us again this season, says Werder Bremen director

Werder Bremen sporting director Peter Niemeyer has confirmed that it is unlikely Victor Boniface will feature again this season.

Boniface suffered a knee injury during training last December and underwent surgery earlier this year. The striker is currently continuing his rehabilitation programme.

Niemeyer admitted that while progress is being made, there is no clear timeline for the Nigerian’s return.

“He’s completing his rehab in Leverkusen, and we’re happy about every bit of progress. But it’s still impossible to predict how quickly he’ll be fully fit again,” Niemeyer told DeichStube.

“Due to the rehabilitation process, we don’t expect Victor to play for Werder again this season.”

Boniface joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

The 25-year-old recorded two assists in 11 league appearances for the Green and Whites before his injury setback.
