Boniface recalls funny response to Mourinho in 2021

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has revealed the words he once exchanged with José Mourinho ahead of AS Roma’s humiliating 6-1 loss to Bodø/Glimt in the UEFA Conference League in 2021.

“Mourinho came to the pitch, walked inside, took his phone, recorded everything and posted: ‘This is the situation, we’re about to play, very cold,’” Boniface said on The Culture League Podcast.

“He posted it. I commented on that same post because I didn’t know I’d be at this level today. I said to him, ‘You never see anything.’”

The game, played on October 21, 2021, in northern Norway, remains one of the heaviest defeats in Mourinho’s managerial career.

Boniface, then a player for Bodø/Glimt, was sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury and did not feature.

Reflecting on life in the Arctic city, the Bayer Leverkusen forward added: “I played in Norway, one of the coldest countries in the world.

“I played for Bodø/Glimt, the city is too small… it’s surrounded by sea. It is freezing.”
