Benue Monarch Hails Gov. Alia, LG Chairman for Sustaining Peace, Urges FG to Refine State Police Model

His Highness Chief James Iormough Wayo, the District Head of Mbayongu-Tyev in Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State, has commended the Vandeikya Local Government Chairman and Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia for their efforts in maintaining peace across the state.

Speaking on Saturday at his send-forth party in Kaduna, the monarch emphasised that security is everyone’s responsibility. “We don’t have to wait for the government alone. It is for everybody. As traditional rulers, we have a duty to work closely with the government to ensure our people are secure. Peace will lead to development – without peace, there can be no development,” he said.

Chief Wayo highlighted his weekly council meetings, where security remains a key agenda, especially for districts sharing borders with states like Cross River.

“We have always maintained a cordial working relationship with them to prevent any issues. We also task our youths to ensure peace is sustained at all levels,” he added.

The monarch suggested that the Federal Government could reshape the concept of state police for more effective implementation, stressing the need for a model that strengthens community involvement and coordination.

He expressed gratitude to the Kunav Development Association in Kaduna for the honour, describing it as a challenge to continue serving with humility and dedication.

Earlier, Comrade Emmanuel Atule, President General of the Kunav Development Association in Kaduna, explained that the decision to honour Chief Wayo stemmed from genuine respect for his humility and selfless service during his time in Kaduna.

On Benue politics, the association urged citizens to rise above bitter party politics and support Governor Hyacinth Alia ahead of 2027, to ensure continued progress in infrastructure, security, agriculture, education, and health sectors.
