Babazango’s Report Card: How Incumbency and Atiku’s Alliance Make Him the Man to Beat in Yola/Girei, Analyst Says

By Tgnews Reporter

A public affairs analyst, Mr. Bulus Dauda, has described the member representing Yola South, Yola North and Girei Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abubakar Babazango, as the “man to beat” ahead of the next general election, citing his performance in office, grassroots appeal, and political alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

In a strongly worded opinion article titled “ADC’s Abubakar Babazango Seeks Second Term on Track Record of Projects, Access, and Grassroots Trust,” Dauda argued that Babazango’s stewardship since 2023 has positioned him as one of the most formidable political figures in Adamawa State.

According to the analyst, the lawmaker has effectively utilised the advantage of incumbency to deliver projects and interventions across the constituency, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, education, healthcare, water supply, and youth empowerment.

Dauda noted that road rehabilitation projects in parts of Yola North, construction of classroom blocks and provision of instructional materials in Girei, as well as empowerment programmes targeting women and youths in Yola South, reflected what he described as “deliberate and consistent efforts” to improve the living conditions of constituents.

He further praised the lawmaker’s accessibility to the people through regular town hall engagements and direct interaction with community stakeholders, saying the approach had strengthened public confidence in his leadership.

The analyst, however, identified Babazango’s political relationship with Atiku Abubakar as a major factor that could shape the outcome of the election, arguing that the alliance provides strategic national influence capable of attracting development opportunities and federal attention to the constituency.

“In Nigerian politics, proximity to influential national leaders often determines the volume of development a constituency attracts,” Dauda stated, adding that many constituents believe the partnership between Babazango and Atiku would amplify the voice of Yola South, Yola North and Girei at the national level.

Quoting the lawmaker during a recent stakeholders’ meeting, Dauda said Babazango had pledged to build on existing achievements.

“My commitment is to build on what we have started. Together with our leader Atiku Abubakar, we will bring more development, more opportunities, and more dignity to our people,” the lawmaker was quoted as saying.

Dauda also highlighted Babazango’s legislative contributions at the National Assembly, noting that he had sponsored and supported bills and motions focusing on education reform, healthcare access, security, and economic empowerment.

Beyond legislative activities and constituency projects, the analyst described the lawmaker as a grassroots politician who maintains close ties with traditional institutions, youth groups, women organisations, and community leaders despite the demands of national office.

He said the electorate in the constituency faces a choice between “rewarding proven performance” or “gambling with untested alternatives,” insisting that continuity in leadership would ensure consolidation of developmental gains already recorded.

Dauda concluded that Babazango’s incumbency, legislative experience, and alliance with Atiku Abubakar collectively make him a strong candidate for re-election.

“The records are clear. The advantage of incumbency is real. The Atiku factor is decisive. Hon. Abubakar Babazango is indeed the man to beat in Yola/Girei,” he stated.
