Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, Opiyo Wandayi, has stated that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will remain in President William Ruto’s government now and beyond.

Speaking to the media after the state funeral service of the late ODM chief Raila Odinga on Friday, October 17, Wandayi noted that their party leader had left them in government and they have no plans of leaving anytime soon.

Wandayi further emphasized that they will continue working with President Ruto from now until after 2027.

“Baba has left us in government led by President Ruto, and that is where we are going to stay till the end. I can dare say, with no fear of contradiction, that we shall walk step by step with President Ruto to the end — now and beyond 2027,” Opiyo Wandayi said here.

ODM and Kenya Kwanza Union

The ODM Party, led by the late Raila Odinga, agreed to work with President William Ruto earlier this year. The two leaders united to address the socio-economic and political challenges facing the country.

As a result, a joint Kenya Kwanza–ODM framework agreement was established to help steer the nation forward.

Prior to the agreement, President Ruto had appointed several of Raila’s close allies to government positions, including Opiyo Wandayi, John Mbadi, Wycliffe Oparanya, and Hassan Joho. However, it remains unclear whether Raila would have supported President Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, as he had recently stated that the ODM party would field its own presidential candidate in the general election.
