The readers of this website hardly need to be reminded that the Honda NSX is a great car. Its stunning driving dynamics have made it a legend among enthusiasts, and some of its development was done by F1 legend Ayrton Senna himself. It’s hardly a surprise then that he owned three NSXs, and one of them is now for sale.

This one is the most famous of the NSXs Senna owned. The driver kept this red Honda at his home in Portugal while he was in the country, and it was featured in the film “Racing Is In My Blood,” and immortalized in a famous photograph of him washing the car.

If you’re not an F1 fan, Senna is considered one of the sport’s all-time greats. In the 1980s and 1990s, he won three drivers’ world championship titles, 41 Grands Prix, and has been cited as an inspiration by drivers like seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton. Sadly, Senna tragically lost his life in a crash at the San Marino Grand Prix on May 1, 1994.

This is also the same NSX driven by Giancarlo Minardi at the Imola Circuit at an event commemorating the 25th anniversary of Senna’s tragic passing, in 2019. Although it was first registered in 1991, the car has just 39,100 miles on the odometer today.

Powered by a 3.0-liter V6 making 271 hp (202 kW / 274 PS) and 209 lb-ft (283 Nm) of torque, the NSX could get up to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.8 seconds. It had a top speed of 165 mph, and Senna was central in convincing Honda to stiffen the model’s chassis after testing a development car at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan.

Today, Senna’s red NSX is owned by Robert McFagan, who picked it up in 2013 after a trip to Algarve, in Portugal. Ever since, the car has lived at his estate in East Sussex, in the UK.

“Being a huge Senna fan myself, I was delighted when I was able to get my hands on the NSX which was crafted to perfection and features a sleek and powerful machine to give an incredible experience on the road,” said McFagan. “It’s been a real pleasure owning what is one of the most famous cars belonging to a true sporting legend and the thrill of driving Senna’s car never goes away.”

Now, just ahead of the 30th anniversary of Senna’s tragic death, the car will change hands again. For sale on Auto Trader UK, it comes with an asking price of £500,000 (around US$622,700 at current exchange rates).
