Awoniyi shines, Aina struggles in Forest’s big win over Spurs

Taiwo Awoniyi delivered an impressive cameo performance, while Ola Aina endured a difficult outing in Nottingham Forest’s 3–0 away victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday’s Premier League clash.

Forest boosted their survival hopes with a commanding performance, as goals from Igor Jesus, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Awoniyi sealed all three points against the relegation-threatened hosts.

Awoniyi came off the bench in the 71st minute for his 12th league appearance of the season and made an immediate impact. The striker capped the win with a well-taken finish, poking home from close range to register his second Premier League goal of the campaign.

In contrast, Aina featured for the full 90 minutes but struggled to impose himself defensively, marking his 15th league outing this season.

According to ratings compiled by Nottingham Post, Awoniyi earned a strong 7.5/10 for his performance, while Aina was rated 5/10. The outlet praised Awoniyi’s contribution, noting: “Once again showed he can have a big part to play in the run-in. Delightful goal and another nice moment for the Nigerian.”

Aina, however, received a more critical assessment: “Ended up on the deck early on after Tel had the beating of him, and it didn’t get much better from there. On another day, he might have conceded a penalty.”

The victory sees Forest move up to 16th place with 32 points, leapfrogging Spurs, who drop to 17th with 30 points.

Both Awoniyi and Aina were omitted from Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming four-nation tournament in March and also missed the 2025 AFCON due to injury
