Taiwo Awoniyi has stressed the importance of self-belief and focus as Nottingham Forest continue their fight to avoid relegation in the Premier League.

Forest sits outside the relegation zone in 17th place, and Awoniyi believes the key to survival lies in concentrating on their own performances rather than being distracted by results elsewhere.

Speaking about the team’s mindset, the striker explained that the players are determined to get the basics right and give their best every time they step onto the pitch.

“For me personally, and among the team as well, the most important thing is ourselves,” Awoniyi said. “We just want to look at ourselves and know we are doing the best we can. No matter the result of the other teams, if we focus on ourselves, we will be fine.”

Nottingham Forest’s season has been a challenging one so far. From 23 league matches, they have recorded seven wins, four draws, and 12 defeats, collecting 25 points.

Their position remains precarious, with relegation rivals West Ham sitting just behind them in 18th place on 20 points, keeping the pressure firmly on Forest as the season progresses.

Awoniyi has endured a difficult campaign personally, struggling for regular starts and featuring mainly from the bench. He has started just one league match this season.

However, there was a positive moment in Forest’s last outing, as he scored his first Premier League goal of the season in the draw against Brentford.

The goal could prove timely for both player and club, with Awoniyi now hoping it earns him a starting role in Forest’s next league fixture against Crystal Palace, scheduled for February 1st.
