Maxi Shield, the Australian performer best known for competing on the inaugural season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under, has died at the age of 51. She finished in sixth place during her run on the series and earned admiration for her stage presence and personality.

Her death comes after a public health battle she shared last year, when she revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer. According to her account, the illness was discovered after she experienced complications caused by a swollen gland that was pressing against blood vessels near her throat.

Following the diagnosis, Maxi underwent chemotherapy in an effort to shrink the tumour. She later confirmed that her final round of treatment took place in January 2026.
