Augsburg snap up Nigerian teenager from Alanyaspor

FC Augsburg have confirmed the signing of Nigerian teenager Uchenna Ogundu from Alanyaspor.

The Bundesliga side announced that Ogundu has penned a long-term contract running until June 30, 2031, although both clubs agreed to keep the transfer fee undisclosed.

Ogundu, 19, arrives in Germany after an encouraging spell in Turkey, where he scored five goals and provided two assists in 20 appearances across all competitions for Alanyaspor. 

His performances caught the attention of Augsburg’s recruitment team, who believe the young forward fits perfectly into their attacking plans.

Augsburg sporting director Benni Weber expressed his delight at securing the youngster.

“We are delighted that Uchenna has chosen FCA,” Weber said. “With his pace, his dynamism and his ability to make runs in behind, he fits perfectly with us and brings additional variability to our game.”

Ogundu, meanwhile, is eager to embrace the challenge of playing in one of Europe’s top leagues and make his mark in the Bundesliga.

“It’s a great feeling that the transfer has gone through,” the forward said. “FC Augsburg offers me a great opportunity to prove myself in one of the best leagues in the world.

“My goal is to settle in quickly, learn a lot, and contribute my qualities on the pitch. I can’t wait to play in the WWK Arena for the first time and experience the atmosphere.”

The move represents a major step forward in Ogundu’s young career as Augsburg continue to invest in promising talent with an eye on the future.
