  • The new model could pump out as much as 630 hp and 833 lb-ft (1,128 Nm).
  • Audi will work its magic on the electric SUV’s design, giving it that RS touch.
  • Development of a Q6 e-tron Sportback is also underway.

It’s hard not to love fast SUVs, and next year, a punchy RS version of the Audi Q6 e-tron could hit the market, giving shoppers yet another option for a mind-bending fast SUV.

Underpinning the Q6 e-tron is the same Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture as the Porsche Macan Electric, and as a result, the RS Q6 e-tron is expected to feature the same powertrain as the flagship Macan Turbo Electric. If that’s the case, it should pump out an equal 630 hp and 833 lb-ft (1,128 Nm) of torque and be capable of a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in the low 3-second range.

Such figures would create a healthy gap between the RS model and the SQ6 e-tron. This model serves as the current flagship in the Q6 e-tron range, offering up to 510 hp with launch control enabled. It hits 60 mph (96 km/h) in a very respectable 4.2 seconds.

It’s not just straight-line performance that will separate the RS model from all other variants. Porsche has equipped the Macan Turbo Electric with rear-axle steering and an electronic differential, and both of these could find their way into the Audi. If that’s the case, then it should handle just as well as it accelerates.

Autocar reports that the RS model will have similar aggressive styling cues to other RS models. That means a thoroughly revised front fascia with a new grille, enlarged air intakes, and a new splitter. Audi may even give the electric SUV a set of flared arches to enhance its presence on the road.

Limited other details about the RS Q6 e-tron are known, but it isn’t the only new version in the works. Audi is also developing a Sportback version of the electric SUV, and it’s expected to launch in the coming months.
