Asari Dokubo Reacts After Governor Sim Fubara Told 23 Rivers State Chairmen To Vacate Their Offices

The brewing crisis in Rivers State revolves around the issue of the tenure of the 23 council chairmen.

The situation escalated when Governor Siminalayi Fubara, supported by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, instructed the chairmen to leave their positions at the end of their term.

This directive has prompted a response from the public, with Niger Delta leader and former militant warlord, Muhajid Asari Dokubo, stating that the people are demonstrating their power.

Dokubo mentions that the people are taking action by seizing control of local government secretariats as they believe that elected officials should not exceed their designated terms.

The statement implies that the people are ready to maintain control until new elections are conducted. The conflict highlights the clash between the authorities and the populace regarding the extension of the chairmen’s terms, leading to a potential governance crisis in the state.

According to Daily Post, Asari Dokubo said,

“The people are showing people’s power. The people have gone on their own to take over local government secretariats because it is about the people, and nobody can say that we voted for three years’ tenure for a chairman and the chairman should exceed one second of that tenure. So, the people of Rivers State are exercising their power, and they are ready to take over until the government is ready to conduct a new election.”..……..See More
