Arthur Okonkwo Tipped To Start For Super Eagles Against Zimbabwe On Tuesday

Wrexham of Wales goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo has gained a massive tip to feature as Nigeria’s first choice in Tuesday’s opening game of the 2026 Unity Cup versus Zimbabwe, Sports247 gathered.

Okonkwo is highly favoured to get a starting spot in what would be his first cap for Nigeria, as he was among the early arrivals at the Super Eagles’ camp at the invitational competition’s venue in London.

The former Arsenal of England youth team shot-stopper had been in brilliant form with Wrexham during this past season of the second-tier Championship and helped the Welsh outfit come pretty close to gaining promotion to the English Premier League.

With personal form and club pedigree holding firm in his favour, Okonkwo added discipline to his scorecard with an early arrival at the Eagles’ camp in honour of his first senior national team invitation.

Okonkwo was one of 14 players who were in the Eagles’ camp before noon on Saturday, as the squad commenced preparations for the four-nation invitational competition that will also feature Zimbabwe, India and Jamaica at Charlton Athletic FC’s stadium, The Valley.

Eagles’ media officer, Promise Efoghe disclosed that the early arrivals alongside Okonkwo included Junior Ayobami, Tijani Al-Ameen, Michael Atata, Adeoye Aderemi, Chibueze Oputa, Ighoke Obinna, Elias Ocholi and Tosin Oyedokun.

Other early arrivals on Saturday were Philip Otele, Femi Azeez, Owen Oseni, Tochukwu Nnadi and Terem Moffi, who all lined out later in the evening for a recovery session, as the crew tried to assess their fitness levels ahead of the opening game on Tuesday.

The Eagles had their first training session at 6pm on the lush home ground turf of Cray Valley FC, located along Middle Park Avenue, marking the start of their preparations for the mini-competition.

Nigeria will open the competition versus Zimbabwe at 8pm on Tuesday, while India take on last year’s runners-up, Jamaica at the same venue on Wednesday, with the winners of both games meeting in the final on Saturday.
