Argentina-Puerto Rico soccer match moved from Chicago to Florida amid Immigration crackdown
A friendly soccer match between the national teams of Argentina and Puerto Rico, originally scheduled to be held in Chicago next week, has been relocated to Florida.  The decision was made amid the ongoing immigration crackdown and related protests in Chicago. A source familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday, October 8  that the match, which was supposed to be played on October 13 at Soldier Field in Chicago, will now take place at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.  This stadium is the home ground of the Argentine teams star player, Lionel Messi, and his club, Inter Miami. An executive of the Argentine Football Association confirmed the relocation to the AP, explaining that the move was directly related to the situation in Chicago. The city has recently seen a surge of arrests, with over 1,000 immigrants detained since the crackdown began last month.  The Trump administration had also vowed to deploy National Guard troops to the area as part of its agenda to boost deportations and quell related protests. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the relocation had not yet been formally announced. The friendly match is part of the reigning World Cup champion Argentinas preparations for the next World Cup, which the U.S., Mexico, and Canada will co-host from June 11 to July 19 of next year. Lionel Messi has been called up to play in both this match and another friendly against Venezuela on Friday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.  The post Argentina-Puerto Rico soccer match moved from Chicago to Florida amid Immigration crackdown appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
