Apple Officially Discontinues Its Clips Video Editing App

Apple has officially ended support for its Clips video editing app, marking the end of an eight-year run. The app, which first launched in 2017, allowed users to easily stitch together videos with music, filters, text overlays, and fun effects  all designed for quick sharing on social media.

Over the years, Apple gradually added new features to Clips, including AR effects, animated captions, and advanced editing tools. However, in recent months, the app received fewer updates, hinting that its end might be near.

Now, Apple has confirmed that Clips has reached its final chapter. The company has removed the app from the App Store and updated its official support page with the following notice:

“The Clips app is no longer being updated and will no longer be available for download for new users as of October 10, 2025.”

For users who already have the app installed on their iPhones or iPads, Clips will still work  at least for now. However, Apple recommends saving all existing videos to the Photos app to prevent losing them if future iOS or iPadOS updates render Clips unusable.

According to Apple’s support guide, users can export their videos with or without effects directly into their Photos library for safekeeping.

While the app was never as popular as Apple’s other creative tools like iMovie or Final Cut Pro, Clips gained a loyal audience among casual creators and educators who enjoyed its simple and playful interface. Its removal signals Apple’s continued focus on integrating video creation and editing tools directly into its ecosystem rather than maintaining separate standalone apps.
