APC Taraba Declares Warwar Ward’s Suspension of Rt. Hon. Peter Diah Illegal, Null and Void

By Tgnews Reporter

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has voided the purported suspension of Rt. Hon. Abel Peter Diah, member representing Mbamnga Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, describing the action by some members of Warwar Ward Executive in Sardauna Local Government Area as “illegal, vindictive and constitutionally defective.”

In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday by the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Aaron Artimas, the party said its State Working Committee (SWC), at its meeting of November 21, 2025, reviewed the report of a duly constituted fact-finding committee and unanimously set aside the suspension for gross violation of the party’s constitution.

“The purported suspension did not follow any known due process. Rt. Hon. Peter Diah was neither queried nor invited to defend himself before any disciplinary panel, in clear breach of the principle of fair hearing enshrined in the APC Constitution,” the statement read in part.

The party disclosed that the suspension letter was irregularly signed by persons allegedly acting under duress, while the meeting that produced the decision was held at an unauthorised venue and without official minutes – a direct contravention of Article 21.2, Section IV of the APC Constitution.

“Acting both as prosecutor and judge in their own case, the concerned ward officials denied our esteemed member his fundamental right to self-defence,” the APC added.

The State Working Committee further revealed that barely 48 hours after its decision was communicated, some members of the same Warwar Ward Executive issued another statement rejecting the SWC’s verdict and accusing the state leadership of misleading the public – an action the party branded as “desperate insubordination and reckless conduct likely to bring the party into hatred, contempt and disrepute.”

The APC reminded all members that no ward or local government executive possesses exclusive powers to discipline party members without recourse to higher organs, stressing that only the State Working Committee is constitutionally mandated to adjudicate complaints from the local government level, while appellate jurisdiction resides solely with the National Executive Committee (Article 21.3 (vi)(e)).

“The fact-finding committee was properly constituted in strict compliance with Article 21.3 (vi)(b) of our constitution. Its recommendations were adopted by the SWC, and the illegal suspension was accordingly set aside with immediate effect,” Hon. Artimas stated.

The party warned that continued defiance of lawful party authorities and the rush to the media to challenge legitimate decisions constitute serious infractions under Articles 21.2 (ii) and (iii) of the APC Constitution and will attract appropriate sanctions.

While urging all members to remain calm and law-abiding, the APC reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, rule of law and constitutionalism, assuring that no individual or group interests will never be allowed to override the collective interest of the party in Taraba State.

Rt. Hon. Abel Peter Diah remains a bona fide and valued member of the All Progressives Congress in good standing.
