APC Strengthens Hold In Edo With By-Election Wins

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory in the two by-elections held in Edo State.

The polls filled the vacant seats for the Edo Central Senatorial District and the Ovia Federal Constituency.

The elections, conducted on Saturday, were necessitated following the elevation of Senator Monday Okebholo to governor and Hon. Dennis Idahosa to deputy governor.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Hon. Joseph Ikpea of the APC as the winner of the Edo Central Senatorial District contest.

Announcing the result at the collation centre in Ubiaja, Esan South-East Local Government Area, the Returning Officer, Prof. Kingsley Omo-Iwoze, stated:“That Ikpea Joseph of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the election.”

Ikpea polled 105,129 votes, defeating his closest rival, Prince Joe Okojie of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 15,146 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Ikpea dedicated the victory to the people of Edo Central, saying:

“This victory reaffirms the people’s faith in our capacity to deliver. I will not disappoint them.

“I will work hand in hand with our governor, our party, and community leaders to ensure that every part of Edo Central feels the impact of quality representation.”

For the Ovia Federal Constituency seat, Returning Officer Clement Ighodaro declared Barrister Omosede Igbinedion of the APC winner, with 77,053 votes, while PDP’s Johnny Aikpitanyi secured 3,838 votes.
